From the official Leverage Models bio:
“Leverage Models makes pop songs about transubstantiation, ritual abuse, political apathy, divorce, white collar criminals, poverty, white liberal guilt, anxiety, & self-harm. with roto-toms.”
What more could you want?
Oh yeah, good songs. Shannon Fields (the brainchild behind Leverage Models) does that as well.
Full disclosure, our very own Jeff Gretz has been a consistent member (in recording) and a semi-consistent member (in touring) for quite a bit now having been a fan of Shannon’s prior “art-performance, avant-garde, totally brilliant, transcending, frustrating, confusing” project Stars Like Fleas. (these are all good things by the way).
After an initial batch of recordings that saw a revolving cast of characters the likes of Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle), Anthony LaMarca (St. Vincent, War On Drugs), Jon Natchez (The War On Drugs, Yellow Ostrich), Kelly Pratt (Bright Moments, Arcade Fire) and guest appearances by the likes of Sharon Van Etten, a solidified lineup of Leverage Models was taken on the road for a flurry of touring in 2015-2016 before embarking on an extended hiatus.
2018 saw a rebirth of Leverage Models in the form of the long gestating album Whites, which was released as a limited edition cassette/digital release with proceeds being donated to the Southern Poverty Law Center. The most recent Leverage Models project is Greys which is an all-star “remix/re-imagining/conversation” with Whites. The proceeds for Greys are being donated to the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees.
